Barra de Potosi Eco Tour :: 15-19 March 2012

Sociedad Audubon de Mexico and Travelian Ecotours, offered a trip to the tranquil beach town of Barra de Potosi from March 15th - 19th. Barra de Potosi is a village located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico near the touristy areas of Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa in the State of Guerrero. Its relaxed ambiance makes it the ideal place for a winter getaway.

Our trip started with a 9 hour drive from San Miguel de Allende crossing the States of Guanajuato and Michoacan; enjoying the beautiful landscapes of green crop fields, lakes, pine forests, semi-desertic mountains, and the tropical scenery of Guerrero along the coast.

Our beach-front hotel with 4 bungalows and 6 suites, is all beautifully designed with white-colored interior walls, lush gardens, palms heliconias and an ancient and "Guayacan" tree with hundreds of delicate purple flowers blossoming directly from the branches just like an orchid.

It was hard to choose between the pool with its indigo blue tiles and crystal clear water and the warm water of the sandy beach with the Morros de Potosi in the background, I choose the pool, everybody else: the beach.

Our diverse tour included activities such as: Birdwatching and kayaking in the Laguna de Potosi, a nature-orientedworkshop with the village's children at the local library, exploring the 3000 year old archaeological of Xihuatlan guided by Carlos our enthusiast expert guide, visiting the center of environmental education and wild animals' shelter El Refugio de Potosi and of course enjoying the sea and the delicious and freshest seafood at the local restaurants known as enramadas.
